Flushing Meadows-Corona Park is a large urban park in the borough of Queens, New York City, established on the site of two 20th-century world’s fairs. It is one of New York City’s major public parks and contains several cultural and sporting facilities.
Key attractions include the park’s large stainless-steel globe, permanent fair-era museums and science centers, and the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, which hosts the US Open each year. Expansive lawns, sports fields, and lakes provide recreational space across the park’s area.
The park was created from a reclaimed ash and marshland site for the 1939 World’s Fair, later reused for the 1964 fair, and has since been adapted into mixed recreational, cultural and sporting use. Many of the fair-era buildings were repurposed as museums and institutions.
Flushing Meadows-Corona Park sits in central Queens between the neighborhoods of Flushing and Corona and is accessible by subway, commuter rail and local roads from across the borough and the city.
- World's Fairs history: The park was the site of the 1939-40 and 1964-65 New York World's Fairs and retains major fair-era features and institutions.
- Major events: The US Open tennis tournament is held here every year at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, drawing large seasonal crowds.
What to See #
- Unisphere: An enormous stainless-steel globe constructed for the 1964 New York World's Fair; it remains the park's most iconic landmark and symbol of the fair.
- USTA National Tennis Center: The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center hosts the annual US Open and features multiple permanent stadium courts and practice facilities within the park's boundaries.
- Museums and cultural venues: A cluster of institutions from the 20th century fairs including the Queens Museum and the New York Hall of Science, both located within the park and open to visitors.

- Avoid days of large events-especially US Open weeks and major concerts-when large swathes of the park are closed or overwhelmed; check the Tennis Center and Parks Department event calendars before you go.
- Walk the park's western edges (Willow Lake and Meadow Lake) rather than staying near the Unisphere; those wetlands and shoreline paths are quieter and popular with birdwatchers yet often overlooked by casual visitors.
