Main image

Flakfortet is a sea fort on an artificial island in the Øresund off the coast of Copenhagen, Denmark. It was constructed in the early 20th century as part of Denmark’s coastal defenses.

The site contains large concrete gun batteries, bunkers and support buildings arranged around a man-made island. It is primarily visited for its military architecture and coastal views and is accessed by private boat or seasonal tour boats rather than by road.

Built by the Danish military in the early 1900s to guard the entrance to Copenhagen harbor, the fort remained part of coastal defenses through the first half of the 20th century. The structure saw changes in use over time and survived both world wars; it is no longer an active military installation.

Sited in the Øresund strait off the eastern Danish coast, the fort lies in the waters between Copenhagen and the Swedish coast and is reached by boat from Copenhagen-area marinas and tour operators.

  • Access: Located on an artificial island in the Øresund, roughly between Copenhagen and Malmö and reachable only by boat.
  • Structure: Originally built for coastal artillery and coastal defense in the early 20th century; much of the fort's concrete and steel batteries remain visible on site.
