Finnish Railway Museum

The Finnish Railway Museum is Finland’s national museum for railway history, located in Hyvinkää, Uusimaa. It interprets the development of rail transport in Finland and preserves historic railway equipment.

The site presents a visible collection of historic locomotives, carriages and railway artefacts across indoor exhibition halls and an outdoor rolling-stock yard. A preserved roundhouse and turntable form the core display area and the museum stages heritage demonstrations and occasional passenger rides.

The collection grew from decommissioned State Railways equipment together with preservation efforts by railway enthusiasts; surviving workshop and depot buildings on site date from the steam era. Conservation and interpretation continue to adapt as rolling stock is restored and rehoused.

The museum sits in Hyvinkää, about 50 km north of Helsinki and reachable by rail from the capital. The museum precinct is adjacent to former railway depot lands and is a short drive from Hyvinkää town centre.
