Southern Finland (Helsinki, Espoo, Porvoo)
By June the long daylight hours have arrived and the region feels summery: daytime temperatures frequently reach high teens to low twenties Celsius and people fill parks and beaches. Midsummer (Juhannus) - the last weekend of June - is a national highlight: expect ferries and trains to be busy and many businesses to close as Finns head to cottages. Mosquitoes are still limited compared with inland lakes, but evenings can be cool so include a sweater.
Southwest Finland & Åland Archipelago (Turku, Turku Archipelago, Åland)
June brings long, bright days and busy harbours as boaters and cyclists arrive in force; Turku boasts festivals and the start of island cruising. Midsummer celebrations are particularly lively in the archipelago - expect full campsites and packed ferries on the Juhannus weekend. Lightweight clothing is fine by day, but a warm fleece is useful for cooler sea breezes after sunset.
Lakeland & Eastern Finland (Tampere, Kuopio, Savonlinna, Koli)
June delivers long, mild summer days - perfect for canoe trips, fishing and hiking in national parks such as Koli or Linnansaari - with temperatures commonly in the mid-teens to low-twenties. Midsummer is a major cottage weekend here: expect full campgrounds, busy boat ramps and closed shops in small towns as Finns retreat to lakeside saunas. Bring layers for cool nights and waterproofs for sudden thunderstorms.
Central & Western Finland (Jyväskylä, Vaasa, Päijänne)
June’s long daylight is ideal for outdoor pursuits and boating across central lakes; Midsummer is celebrated with gusto in cottage areas - book early. Temperatures are comfortable and mosquitos begin to appear near stagnant water, though winds on the west coast keep insect pressure lower. Dress in layers for warm days and cooler nights, and expect higher demand for boat and cottage rentals.
Lapland & Northern Finland (Rovaniemi, Inari, Kilpisjärvi, Saariselkä)
June delivers continuous daylight above the Arctic Circle for much of the month - the midnight sun period - and this drives a summer tourist surge for hiking, kayaking and wilderness trekking. Trails can be muddy and rivers high from thaw, so waterproof boots and careful route planning are advised; many huts open and access improves. Packing a warm layer for night hours is still sensible despite long daytime warmth.
