Finca Vigía

Finca Vigía is the former home of American writer Ernest Hemingway, located in the San Francisco de Paula district near Havana, Cuba. Hemingway purchased the property in 1939 and used it as his principal Cuban residence for much of the mid-20th century.

The property contains the main house, outbuildings and gardened grounds with views over the surrounding countryside. On display are personal items associated with Hemingway and collections such as books and manuscripts; the house operates as a museum under Cuban stewardship.

Hemingway bought the estate in 1939 and lived there intermittently until he left Cuba in 1960. The site has been preserved to reflect its mid-20th-century appearance and has undergone conservation work to maintain the buildings and collections.

The finca sits on a ridge in the outskirts of Havana, roughly 15 kilometers from the city center, in a suburban landscape of low hills and residential neighbourhoods.
