Filitosa

Filitosa is a major prehistoric site in southern Corsica known for its carved standing stones and statue-menhirs. The site preserves stone sculptures and settlement remains spanning the late Neolithic into the Bronze Age and is one of Corsica’s best-known archaeological locations.

The open-air site includes several anthropomorphic stone figures carved to represent armed warriors and other motifs, along with traces of fortified settlement walls and occupation levels. Visitors can walk among the standing stones and see how the site was organized in relation to defensive features.

Archaeological work at Filitosa established a chronology of use from prehistoric farming communities through later Bronze Age transformations, during which the statue-menhirs were carved and reused. The site has been interpreted as a place of social and ritual significance across these periods.

Filitosa lies inland in southern Corsica, in the commune of Sollacaro, a short drive from the coastal town of Propriano and accessible by regional roads.
