How to Get to Fertőd
Fertőd is most conveniently reached via Sopron; Vienna International Airport is the main international entry point with direct regional trains to Sopron. From Sopron it's a short bus or taxi ride to Fertőd, making rail + short road transfer the practical approach.
Vienna International Airport (VIE): Vienna is the main international gateway for Fertőd. From Vienna Airport take the City Airport Train (CAT) or S-Bahn into Vienna Hauptbahnhof or Vienna Mitte, then regional ÖBB or GYSEV trains toward Sopron. Typical rail journey Vienna → Sopron takes around 1h30-1h50 on regional services; total travel time airport → Fertőd (via Sopron) around 2-2.5 hours. Expect one‑way rail fares Vienna → Sopron in the roughly €10-€25 range depending on advance purchase and service.
Budapest Liszt Ferenc (BUD): Budapest is also an option and offers frequent international connections; travel from Budapest to Sopron by rail or bus takes around 2-2.5 hours, then a short onward bus/taxi to Fertőd.
