How to Get to Ferizaj
Ferizaj is reached mainly via Pristina International Airport (Adem Jashari, PRN) and by road from nearby cities. The town also has a railway station but passenger services are limited, so most visitors use buses, shared minibuses or taxis for the final leg.
Pristina International Airport (PRN): The main gateway for Ferizaj is Pristina International (Adem Jashari, PRN). From PRN you can take the airport shuttle or private minibus to Pristina city centre (about €4-€6, 20-25 minutes) and then a regional bus or shared minibus to Ferizaj from Pristina Bus Station (Stacioni i Autobusëve i Prishtinës) - that onward leg is roughly €1-€3 and takes 30-45 minutes. Taxis from PRN to Ferizaj are available directly from the rank; expect a one-way fare in the region of €20-€30 and a journey time of about 30-40 minutes depending on traffic.
Skopje International Airport (SKP): Skopje (North Macedonia) is a common alternative for international flights. From SKP you can travel by intercity bus or a cross-border taxi to Kosovo; buses from Skopje bus station to Ferizaj or nearby towns typically take around 2-2.5 hours and cost about €8-€15. Renting a car at SKP is another option; driving time to Ferizaj is roughly 1.5-2 hours depending on border formalities.
Train: Ferizaj has a railway station served by Kosovo Railways. Passenger services are limited and timetables can change; when running the common routing is via Fushë Kosovë (Kosovo Polje) / Pristina. Typical short domestic fares are low (around €1-€3) and a leg from Fushë Kosovë to Ferizaj takes on the order of 20-35 minutes, but check Kosovo Railways for current schedules before relying on trains.
Bus: Regular buses and shared minibuses (furgons) connect Ferizaj with Pristina (departing from Stacioni i Autobusëve i Prishtinës), Gjilan, Skopje and other regional centres. The Pristina-Ferizaj run takes about 30-45 minutes and fares are generally €1-€3. Intercity bus services are the most dependable public transport option for getting to and from Ferizaj; they depart from the town’s main bus stops and the regional terminals.
How to Get Around Ferizaj
Ferizaj is a compact town best explored on foot for short distances and by taxi for quick door-to-door trips. For regional travel, buses and shared minibuses are the most reliable; trains exist but are infrequent, and hiring a car gives the most flexibility for day trips.
- Local buses & furgons (€0.7-€3) - Shared minibuses (locally called furgons) and small local buses are the backbone of regional travel. They run frequently to Pristina and neighbouring towns, depart from the town bus stops, and are usually faster than waiting for scheduled intercity buses. Expect basic vehicles and crowded peak services; carry small change.
- Taxis (€1.5-€30) - Taxis are easy to find and useful for short hops around town or for door-to-door airport transfers. In-town fares are inexpensive but meters may not always be used - negotiate or confirm a price before starting. Airport or longer transfers (Pristina/Skopje ↔ Ferizaj) are significantly more expensive and should be booked or confirmed in advance.
- Train (Kosovo Railways) (€1-€3) - Ferizaj railway station exists on the Kosovo Railways network, but passenger services are intermittent and primarily regional. If a service is running it can be a cheap option for short trips (for example via Fushë Kosovë), but you should check current timetables because frequencies are low. Trains are basic and travel times can be slower than road alternatives.
- Car hire & driving (€25-€60/day) - Hiring a car gives flexibility for exploring the District of Ferizaj and sites beyond. Roads between major towns are generally in good condition; town centre streets can be narrow and parking limited in busy areas. Watch for local driving habits and carry ID and insurance documents for cross-border trips.
- Cycling (€3-€8/day) - Ferizaj is compact enough to cycle for short errands and sightseeing; bike rental options are limited but occasionally available through guesthouses or rental shops in larger nearby towns. Roads outside the centre can be hilly and lack dedicated cycle lanes, so use caution and avoid busy hours.
- Walking - Much of Ferizaj's centre is pleasantly walkable: shops, markets and cafes are close together and on-foot exploration is the easiest way to absorb the town's atmosphere. Pavements can be uneven in places, so wear sensible shoes and use caution after dark.
