Ferenc Puskás Stadium

The Ferenc Puskás Stadium site in Budapest is Hungary’s principal national stadium, rebuilt as a modern arena and opened in 2019 on the footprint of the earlier mid-20th-century stadium. The venue is named for Ferenc Puskás, Hungary’s best-known footballer.

The original national stadium opened in 1953 as the Népstadion and served for decades as the main venue for the Hungarian national team, large concerts and mass events. That stadium was demolished and replaced by the new Puskás Arena, which was completed and brought into use in 2019.

The stadium stands in Budapest on the site of the former national stadium, on the city’s northern-eastern approaches, and is integrated into Budapest’s public transport network for event access.
