Femundsmarka National Park

Femundsmarka National Park is a large wilderness park in central Norway, centred on the lake Femunden and bordering Sweden. It protects extensive boreal forest, mountain plateaus and freshwater systems and is a well-known area for canoeing and backcountry hiking.

Visitors use a network of water routes, island campsites and basic trails for multi-day canoe trips, fishing and wildlife watching. The landscape is defined by lakes, boggy plateaus and forested valleys with few developed facilities.

The park was established to conserve the region’s natural values and traditional outdoor uses; management focuses on low-impact recreation. Seasonal use peaks in summer when waterways are navigable and trails are accessible.

Femundsmarka lies along Norway’s eastern border with Sweden in the Trøndelag region, with access from nearby villages and forest roads leading to lake launch points.
