The Feldsee is a small glacial lake in the Black Forest of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, located below the Feldberg massif. It is a natural mountain tarn formed by glacial activity.
The lake is surrounded by dense forest and short hiking trails that allow close access while protecting the immediate environment. It is a common short hike destination for visitors in the Feldberg area.
The Feldsee formed at the end of the last Ice Age when glaciers carved the cirque that now holds the lake. Its basin and surrounding peat soils are ecologically sensitive and are protected as part of local conservation efforts.
Situated near the Feldberg area in southern Black Forest, the lake lies within Baden-Württemberg and is accessed from established forest trails in the Feldberg region.

How to Get to Feldsee #
From Freiburg im Breisgau, take the B500 toward Todtnau and follow signs for Feldberg/Bärental (about 45-60 minutes by car). From the Feldberg parking areas near Bärental there are well-marked footpaths to the Feldsee - expect a 30-50 minute walk over forest paths with some short steep sections. Regional buses run to Feldberg/Bärental in summer; check local timetables.

- Start at the Feldberg/Bärental parking (seasonal paid lots) and follow the signed trail to the Feldsee to avoid scrambling steep forest tracks.
- Visit at dawn or late afternoon for the best light; mid-day the narrow bowl traps commuters and coach groups.
- Walk the 1-1.5 km circular path around the lake; stick to the boardwalks - the peat and spruce roots are fragile and the reserve is strictly managed.
