Fazao Mafakassa National Park

Fazao-Malfakassa National Park is a protected area in central-northern Togo that conserves a mosaic of savanna, woodland and higher ground around the Fazao massif. It is recognised as one of Togo’s principal protected landscapes and provides habitat for a range of regional fauna and flora.

Recreation focuses on low-density wildlife viewing, walking and experiencing rural landscapes rather than developed tourist infrastructure. Management and access are oriented to conservation, and facilities are basic compared with large international parks.

The park was established to protect upland and savanna ecosystems and has been the focus of national conservation efforts in Togo over recent decades. It encompasses a variety of habitats from lowland plains up to the Fazao uplands.

Geographically it lies in the Centrale and neighbouring regions of Togo, roughly in the central-northern part of the country and accessed by regional roads and tracks from nearby towns.
