Main image

Faror Island refers to one of the Faror Islands in the northern Persian Gulf, administered from Hormozgan province, Iran. The group is composed of at least two principal islands often distinguished as Greater and Lesser Faror.

The islands are largely undeveloped and noted for rocky shores and sparse vegetation rather than tourist infrastructure. They are visited infrequently and are of interest mainly for wildlife observations and coastal studies.

The islands have been used intermittently for fishing and occasional strategic purposes, but they have not supported large permanent civilian populations in recent decades.

Situated in the Persian Gulf off Iran’s southern coast, the Faror Islands lie within Hormozgan province and are separated from the mainland by open gulf waters.

  • Island group composition: The Faror (Farur) islands comprise at least two main isles often referenced as Great and Little Faror and are remote in the northern Persian Gulf.
