Fantoft Stave Church

Fantoft Stave Church is a wooden stave church located in the Fantoft area near Bergen in Vestland county, Norway; the original church dates to the 12th century though the standing building is a reconstructed replica. The site is noted as an example of traditional Norwegian stave-church construction.

The church features characteristic vertical wooden staves, steep pitched roofs, and ornate carved details that reflect medieval Norse church-building techniques. It is often visited for its architecture and as a representative example of Norway’s stave-church heritage.

The original building was constructed in the 12th century in Fortun and relocated to Fantoft in 1883. It was destroyed by arson in 1992 and subsequently reconstructed in the 1990s using traditional methods to replicate the medieval form.

Fantoft sits on the western side of Bergen, about 6 kilometres south of Bergen city centre, within a mixed residential and wooded area that is accessible from the city by road and local public transport.
