Faneuil Hall

Faneuil Hall is an 18th-century market and meeting place in downtown Boston, Massachusetts, originally funded by merchant Peter Faneuil and completed in 1742. It is an enduring civic landmark and marketplace in the city.

The site combines a historic upstairs meeting hall with active ground-floor market space that contains shops and eateries; the adjacent Quincy Market building dates from 1824-1826. It functions today as both a retail and cultural destination, drawing local and tourist foot traffic year-round.

The hall served as a venue for public meetings and speeches during the colonial and early national periods and has been associated with political debate and protest. The surrounding market buildings were expanded in the 19th century to accommodate growing commercial activity.
