A state park preserving extensive fossil-bearing limestone beds along the Ohio River, notable for an exposed Devonian-age fossil reef. The site combines outdoor access to the rock exposures with an interpretive center that explains the area’s paleontology.

Visitors can walk out onto broad rock platforms to view and photograph fossil corals, brachiopods, and other marine fossils embedded in the limestone; trails and overlooks provide river views and safe access points. The interpretive center offers exhibits and seasonal programs about the fossils and local history.

The park was established to protect the unique exposed fossil reef and to provide educational access for the public. Management focuses on preserving the rock surface and preventing fossil removal while allowing study and interpretation.

Located on the Ohio River bank near Clarksville and just across the river from Louisville, Kentucky, the park sits at a lowland riverside setting with direct access to the riverfront rock shelves.

  • Geological significance: The exposed rock along the river is a fossilized coral reef from the Devonian period, commonly visited for visible fossil specimens in the limestone pavement.
  • Best time to visit: Best viewing of the fossil beds occurs at low river stages when the rock platforms are exposed; check river conditions before planning a visit.
