Fairy Meadows is an alpine meadow area in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, renowned for its panoramic views of Nanga Parbat, one of the world’s highest peaks. The site lies at high elevation, commonly cited near 3,300 meters above sea level.
The location is popular with photographers, trekkers, and campers seeking close-up views of Nanga Parbat’s dramatic faces and skyline. The meadow and nearby trails provide relatively accessible viewpoints that are frequently used for sunrise and sunset photography.
Traditionally used as grazing land by local communities, the site developed as a tourist destination over recent decades as road access and local guesthouse facilities expanded. It functions today primarily as a scenic base for visitors and photographers rather than a settled town.
Fairy Meadows sits on the southwestern flank of Nanga Parbat in the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan, reached from the Karakoram Highway at Raikot Bridge and then by local track and footpath to the meadow area.

How to Get to Fairy Meadows National Park #
From Gilgit or Chilas, travel by road to Raikot Bridge on the Karakoram Highway. From Raikot Bridge most visitors hire local jeep drivers for the rough track to Tato (a ride of roughly 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on conditions). From Tato the path to Fairy Meadows is a steep walk of about 45 minutes to 3 hours depending on pace and exact drop-off point.
Plan extra time: the jeep road is unsealed and weather-sensitive, and the final trail becomes impassable with heavy snow or rain. Local guides and drivers are recommended and often required for safety and navigation.
Tips for Visiting Fairy Meadows National Park #
- Arrange the jeep from Raikot Bridge to Tato in advance with a local operator - the drive is rough and the number of drivers is limited.
- Stay at least one night in Fairy Meadows to catch sunrise on Nanga Parbat's Rupal Face; the morning light is the show, not the evening.
- Bring cash for local village fees and to tip guides; mobile connectivity is limited, so plan for basic self-sufficiency.
Best Time to Visit Fairy Meadows National Park #
Best visited late spring through early autumn; summer has the most predictable access and the lushest meadows.
