Faddeyevsky Peninsula
Island Remote Arctic peninsula in the New Siberian Islands
Part of the New Siberian Islands in Sakha, the Faddeyevsky Peninsula lies in Arctic tundra with permafrost and sea‑ice margins; it attracts scientists and a few polar‑expedition visitors rather than regular tourism.
The Faddeyevsky Peninsula is a large, low-lying Arctic landform in the New Siberian Islands, administratively within the Sakha Republic of the Russian Federation. It forms part of a remote island group in the Laptev Sea north of the Siberian mainland.
The landscape is characterised by tundra plains, numerous shallow lagoons and coastal floodplains with widespread permafrost and sparse vegetation; there are no permanent settlements. The area is of interest for Arctic geology, birdlife during summer and palaeontological finds reported from the New Siberian Islands.
The islands, including Faddeyevsky, were periodically visited by indigenous hunters and later by Russian explorers and traders; scientific and exploratory visits have documented their geology and fossil deposits. The islands have remained largely uninhabited and are used only occasionally for scientific research.
The peninsula lies in the northeastern Arctic, off the north coast of Siberia in the Laptev Sea, within the Sakha Republic. It is hundreds of kilometres north of the Siberian mainland, accessible only by sea or air in polar conditions.
- Remote Arctic location: Part of the New Siberian Islands group in the Laptev Sea, the peninsula is remote and uninhabited, with low-lying tundra, lagoons and permafrost terrain.
