European Hansemuseum

The European Hansemuseum is a museum in Lübeck, Schleswig-Holstein, dedicated to the history of the Hanseatic League and northern European trade networks. The institution opened in 2015 and combines archaeological finds, original objects and multimedia displays to explain Hanseatic commerce and urban life.

Exhibition spaces present trade routes, mercantile practice and daily life in Hanseatic cities, using maps, reconstructed interiors and artefacts. The museum building integrates new exhibition architecture close to Lübeck’s medieval urban fabric.

The museum was established to create a comprehensive public presentation of Hanseatic history and to house related collections and research activities. It forms part of Lübeck’s ensemble of cultural institutions that interpret the town’s medieval trading past.
