Estadio Monumental (Buenos Aires)

The Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti is the home stadium of Club Atlético River Plate in the Núñez district of Buenos Aires, Argentina; it was inaugurated in 1938 and is the largest stadium in the country.

The ground holds roughly 70,000 spectators in multiple tiers and has a full-size pitch about 105 by 70 metres. The complex includes the club museum, hospitality areas, and club facilities used on match days and for concerts.

Conceived and built by River Plate during the 1930s, the stadium has been altered and expanded several times since its 1938 inauguration and was renamed for club president Antonio Vespucio Liberti. It hosted the 1978 FIFA World Cup final and has remained River Plate’s principal venue since opening.

Sited in the Núñez neighborhood of Buenos Aires, the stadium is north of the city centre along the River Plate waterfront and is reachable by road and public transit from central Buenos Aires in under 30 minutes depending on traffic.
