The ESMA Museum and Site of Memory occupies the former Escuela de Mecánica de la Armada building in Buenos Aires, which was used as a clandestine centre of detention during Argentina’s 1976-1983 military dictatorship. The site has been converted into a museum and memorial to document state terrorism and to preserve evidence and testimonies.

The museum presents archival documentation, testimony and exhibitions that focus on the network of enforced disappearances, detention and torture carried out during the dictatorship. Parts of the building are maintained to reflect its history as a clandestine centre and are used for education and commemoration.

The site is located in the northern part of the Buenos Aires metropolitan area, within the urban fabric of the city commonly referred to as Buenos Aires.

From central Buenos Aires, the site is most conveniently reached by taxi or ride-hailing (around 15-30 minutes depending on traffic); by car it lies approximately 8-10 km north of Plaza de Mayo along the Avenida del Libertador corridor.

Several colectivos (city bus lines) run along Avenida del Libertador and stop near the site; exact bus numbers vary-check local timetables. The site is not directly on a single metro line, so many visitors prefer a direct taxi from downtown or a short bus ride from major train/metro hubs.

• Book a guided visit in advance and check the museum's official schedule - access to the ESMA memory site is controlled and tours run at set times with limited capacity.
• Arrive with government photo ID and expect security screening on entry; guided tours often include access to sensitive archival spaces and survivor testimony exhibits that are scheduled.
