Esphigmenou Monastery is an Eastern Orthodox monastery on the Mount Athos peninsula and is one of the monastic community’s traditional monasteries. It forms part of the autonomous monastic state of Mount Athos.
The monastery complex includes the main church (the catholicon), monastic cells and communal buildings; liturgical services and monastic life remain the core focus. Artistic and liturgical furnishings, icons and wall painting survive in parts of the complex.
