Erebuni Museum

The Erebuni Museum sits beside the archaeological remains of an Urartian fortress on Arin Berd (Erebuni Hill) in the southeastern part of Yerevan. The fortress at the site was founded in 782 BC and the museum presents material from those excavations.

Exhibits focus on finds from the Urartian period including pottery, stone and metal objects, and inscribed fragments, arranged to explain the fortress complex and daily life at the settlement. The hilltop position provides a compact archaeological walk among exposed foundations and foundations’ outlines with views over the city below. The museum galleries are adjacent to the excavated areas, allowing visitors to connect indoor displays with the on-site ruins.

The fortress was established in 782 BC by the Urartian kingdom as a fortified administrative center. Systematic archaeological excavations in the 20th century uncovered the fortress architecture, wall paintings and inscribed artifacts that form the basis of the museum collection.

The site is on Arin Berd in the Erebuni district of Yerevan, within the city’s southeastern suburbs, easily reached from central Yerevan by road and local transport.
