Emley Moor transmitting station

The Emley Moor transmitting station is a broadcasting site in West Yorkshire anchored by a 330-metre reinforced concrete tower that carries television and radio transmitters. The concrete tower is the principal visible landmark at the site.

The tower supports national and regional TV and radio services and is a local landmark visible across the surrounding countryside; the structure is not open to the public. Its height and shape make it notable on the skyline of the area.

The current concrete tower was completed in the early 1970s after earlier guyed masts at the site were replaced following a 1969 collapse of one mast; the replacement was designed to provide a more robust, freestanding structure for broadcasting.

Emley Moor stands near the village of Emley in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, serving the larger towns and cities of the surrounding region in northern England.

Height: The concrete tower stands 330 metres tall, making it the tallest freestanding structure in the United Kingdom.
