Electoral Palace, Trier

The Electoral Palace in Trier is the former residence of the Electors of Trier, a Baroque palace complex located beside Trier Cathedral in the city centre. Construction and major alterations date from the 17th and 18th centuries.

The site presents baroque façades, a formal courtyard and gardens that form a principal public space in central Trier; the palace complex is frequently seen together with the cathedral and other historic buildings. The courtyard and gardens are often used for concerts and civic events.

The palace was built and modified as the urban residence of the archbishop-electors who governed the Electorate of Trier, with major Baroque-era expansions in the 1600s and 1700s. Over time the complex has been adapted for administrative and cultural uses.
