El Museo del Barrio

El Museo del Barrio is a cultural museum in East Harlem, Manhattan, focused on art and cultural heritage from Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and broader Latin America and Latinx communities. It was founded in 1969 and has grown into a museum with both permanent and rotating exhibitions.

Exhibition spaces include galleries of modern and contemporary art, folk and popular art, and changing shows that highlight Latinx artists and community histories. The museum also runs educational programs, public events and community outreach.

The institution began as a community-based effort to promote Puerto Rican and Latino cultural expression in New York City and developed into a museum with national recognition for its collections and programming.
