El Bañuelo

El Bañuelo is a historic Islamic bathhouse (hammam) in Granada, Andalusia, preserved as an example of medieval Moorish public baths in the city. It retains the basic spatial sequence and architectural features of a traditional hammam, including vaulted ceilings with star-shaped skylights.

Inside there is the typical progression of rooms for cold, warm and hot bathing, arranged around narrow vaulted passages and small vaulted chambers. The main visual highlights are the intact vaults and the distribution of light through the skylights, which give a clear sense of original function and layout.

The bath was constructed during Granada’s Islamic period and later underwent conservation to preserve its structure and vaulting. It survived as a recognizable hammam and has been adapted for public access and interpretation in the modern era.

The building sits in Granada’s historic Albaicín quarter, within walking distance of the old city centre and the Darro river. The site is accessed via narrow streets in the medieval neighborhood and is typically combined with visits to other historic areas of Granada.
