Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle is a restored medieval castle on a small tidal island at the meeting point of three sea lochs on the west coast of Scotland. The site dates to the medieval period but the visible structure today largely results from a major reconstruction completed in the early 20th century.

Visitors come for the castle interiors, exhibition rooms and photographic views across the lochs, using the modern footbridge that links the island to the mainland. The surrounding shoreline and road approaches provide popular vantage points for photography and short walks.

Originally established as a fortified site in the medieval period, the castle was a stronghold of local clans and saw periods of destruction and decay before the 20th‑century restoration led by Lt.
