Effigy Mounds National Monument

Effigy Mounds National Monument in northeastern Iowa preserves prehistoric Native American burial and ceremonial mounds on bluffs above the Mississippi River. The site is best known for its earthen mounds arranged in animal shapes and other mound forms that reflect indigenous mound-building traditions.
