Edward VII Park

Parque Eduardo VII is a major public park in central Lisbon named after King Edward VII following his 1903 visit. It is one of the city’s principal green spaces and occupies the hill north of Avenida da Liberdade.

The park features a broad, formal, terraced lawn aligned with Avenida da Liberdade and a southern terrace that provides a long axial view over central Lisbon toward the Tagus River. The site includes formal beds, tree-lined promenades and a prominent greenhouse complex on the western side.

The park acquired its current name after King Edward VII’s 1903 visit and was developed in the 20th century as a planned urban green space. Over time municipal projects added glasshouse complexes and planted promenades to serve both recreational and botanical purposes.

Situated at the northern end of Avenida da Liberdade, the park sits adjacent to the Marquês de Pombal roundabout in central Lisbon, within easy walking distance of the city’s central districts and major public transport nodes.

What to See #

• Estufa Fria: A large greenhouse complex on the park's west side composed of connected glasshouses with collections of subtropical and tropical plants; popular for plant displays and sheltered walks year-round.
• Southern terrace and central lawn: A broad, terraced central lawn and southern terrace that provide direct axial views down Avenida da Liberdade toward central Lisbon and the Tagus River.
