Edinburgh Zoo is a zoological park on Corstorphine Hill in Edinburgh, Scotland, established in 1913 and operated by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland. The zoo covers parkland and enclosures across much of the hillside and combines visitor attractions with conservation programmes.
Key attractions include the daily Penguin Parade, the Budongo Trail primate exhibit and specialist conservation facilities such as the Scottish Wildcat Conservation Centre. The site houses a diverse collection of mammals, birds and reptiles and runs captive-breeding and education programmes.
The zoo was founded in the early 20th century with a remit to combine public education and scientific conservation; it has expanded its exhibits and conservation work across the century. Facilities and enclosures have been upgraded over time to meet modern animal welfare and exhibition standards.
