Ebeko

Ebeko is an active stratovolcano on Paramushir Island in the northern Kuril Islands, Sakhalin Oblast, Russia. It is one of the more active volcanoes in the Kurils and produces frequent fumarolic activity and ash emissions.

The volcano commonly generates steam-and-ash plumes and intermittent explosive episodes that rise from the summit crater, often reaching several kilometres above the volcano during stronger events. Observations and monitoring focus on ash plumes and gas emissions rather than lava flows.

Records show repeated eruptive activity through the 20th and 21st centuries with ongoing intermittent eruptions; monitoring is carried out by Russian and international volcanic observatories. Activity tends to be explosive and short-lived rather than effusive.

Ebeko stands on Paramushir in the Kuril archipelago, northeast of Hokkaido and within Sakhalin Oblast. The nearest town is Severo-Kurilsk on Paramushir, which lies close enough to experience ashfall during eruptions.
