East Sakhalin Mountains
Mountains Mountain range spanning eastern Sakhalin Island
The East Sakhalin Mountains run along Sakhalin’s eastern flank, offering rugged ridgelines, taiga forest and remote opportunities for backcountry hiking, fishing and seasonal wildlife observation.
The East Sakhalin Mountains are a mountain chain located along the eastern side of Sakhalin Island in Sakhalin Oblast, Russian Federation.
The range forms a rugged, forested landscape of ridges and valleys along the island’s Pacific-facing coast, with coastal slopes and interior uplands rather than extensive alpine development.
The mountains are the result of the island’s long geological history and tectonic setting; they have no single construction history and are primarily significant as part of Sakhalin’s physical geography.
Running along the eastern portion of Sakhalin Island, the range faces the Sea of Okhotsk and occupies much of the island’s eastern coastal terrain.
