Duwisib Castle

Duwisib Castle is an early 20th-century European-style manor built in central-southern Namibia in the Hardap Region. It was constructed as a private residence in a German colonial architectural style and is now conserved as a historic site.

The complex includes the main castellated house and associated outbuildings set on open arid plains; interior rooms are furnished to reflect the original occupation and the site is interpreted for visitors. The building is widely visited as a museum and a distinctive example of European domestic architecture in Namibia.

The castle was built in 1909 by a German settler and served as the centre of a farming estate. Over the 20th century the property passed through different hands and was later preserved for its architectural and historical value.

Duwisib stands near the settlement of Maltahöhe in Namibia’s Hardap Region, set on semi-arid plains typical of central Namibia. The site is reached by sealed and gravel roads from regional towns and serves as a tourist stop in the southern interior.
