Dunrobin Castle

Dunrobin Castle is an estate house near Golspie in Sutherland, northern Scotland, long associated with the Earls of Sutherland. It is one of the largest historic houses in the Scottish Highlands and is noted for its castle-like profile and formal gardens.

The site has been the seat of the Sutherland family since medieval times; the present appearance reflects substantial 19th-century remodelling by Sir Charles Barry that gave the house its French chateau-influenced profile while retaining older fabric. The estate has remained in the Sutherland family for centuries.

The castle sits close to the village of Golspie on Scotland’s north coast in Sutherland, overlooking coastal waters of the Dornoch Firth area. It is accessed from local roads serving the Highland coast.
