Dunluce Castle is a ruined medieval fortress perched on a basalt promontory on the Antrim coast of Northern Ireland. The surviving stone remains include curtain walls and fragments of towers that overlook the North Atlantic.
The castle served as a stronghold and residence for regional lords and played a role in the political and military history of the north-east coast; it fell into ruin during the early modern period and was gradually abandoned. Parts of the structure collapsed into the sea over time, contributing to its present ruined state.
The site sits on a narrow rocky headland between the coastal settlements on the Causeway Coast and is a prominent landmark on coastal drives and walking routes in the area.
- Location on cliffs: The ruins stand on a dramatic basalt outcrop and are close to the coastal villages of Portrush and Bushmills on the Antrim coast.
- Safety and access: Sections of the site are fragile with steep drops, so visitors should follow marked paths and restrictions when viewing the ruins near cliff edges.

Tips for Visiting Dunluce Castle #
- Walk the path along the cliff edge for the best, cinematic angle of the ruined keep - watch for sheep and eroded paths.
- Avoid the southwest wind; when a gale comes off the North Atlantic, the causeway and cliffs feel perilously theatrical.
