Dundrennan Abbey

Dundrennan Abbey is a ruined Cistercian monastery on the Solway coast in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, founded in the mid 12th century. The site contains substantial masonry remains of the abbey church and associated monastic buildings.

Key visible elements include the nave and choir foundations, cloister area and fragments of the chapter house and ancillary ranges. The ruins illustrate the plan of a medieval Cistercian house and are a focus for both heritage interest and informal visits.

The abbey was dissolved in the 16th century during the wider religious and political transformations in Scotland and subsequently fell into ruin. Today the site is unmanaged or lightly managed as a historic ruin with roadside access.
