Dubuque Regional Airport (DBQ): DBQ is a small regional airport with limited scheduled service, typically to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) via regional carriers. From DBQ the city centre is about a 5-10 minute drive; taxi or ride‑hail fares are generally USD 10-20 and travel time is under 15 minutes.
Chicago O’Hare International (ORD): Many visitors connect through Chicago O’Hare; driving from ORD to Dubuque is about 3-3.5 hours (250-270 miles) and rental cars are a common choice. Regional flights into Dubuque from ORD are the faster option if available.
Train: Dubuque currently has no Amtrak service. The nearest Amtrak stations are in the Quad Cities / Rock Island area and Cedar Rapids region; connecting by bus or car to an Amtrak station is required.
Bus: Intercity bus services (Burlington Trailways and regional carriers) serve Dubuque via the Dubuque Intermodal Transportation Center. Fares to regional hubs such as Chicago or Madison typically range from about USD 25-60 and journey times vary by route (Chicago ~3-4 hours by bus). Local buses (Jule) serve the city and surrounding suburbs.
