Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve

The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve is a protected area in the Emirate of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, established to conserve native desert ecosystems and wildlife. It was set up by decree in the early 2000s and protects one of the largest areas of relatively undisturbed desert in the emirate.

The reserve preserves sand dune systems, interdune plains and desert vegetation across its roughly 225 square kilometre area. Visitors typically take guided wildlife drives, conservation-focused excursions and cultural experiences operated by licensed providers; the area supports species reintroduction and monitoring programs.

The reserve was created by the Dubai government in the early 2000s to provide a framework for conservation, regulated tourism and species recovery initiatives, including programs for native ungulates. Management combines government oversight with private concessionaires to run visitor services while restricting general public access.

Geographically the reserve sits within the Emirate of Dubai on its desert plain, separated from the urban and coastal areas of the city. It lies inland from the Dubai coastline and is reached by road from the Dubai metropolitan area; visits are commonly organized from the city.
