Du Fu Thatched Cottage

Du Fu Thatched Cottage is a memorial park and museum in Chengdu’s Qingyang District, Sichuan, commemorating the Tang dynasty poet Du Fu; the original thatched house dates to 759. The site interprets Du Fu’s life and poetry and preserves cultural relics and inscriptions associated with his legacy.

The complex centers on a reconstructed thatched dwelling, exhibition halls and a stele pavilion set within formal gardens. Visitors can walk short paths among bamboo and plum plantings, view carved stelae and calligraphic panels, and enter rooms that present Du Fu’s poems and historical context. The reconstructed cottage is the main photographic and interpretive focus.

Du Fu lived in Chengdu in the mid-8th century during the Tang dynasty and the thatched cottage there became a site of literary veneration thereafter. The present museum and park were developed in the 20th century to preserve and present the poet’s association with Chengdu.

The site sits within the urban area of Chengdu in Sichuan province, inside Qingyang District. It is located in the city rather than on a remote site and is visited as part of Chengdu city itineraries.
