Dospat Reservoir
Reservoir Large reservoir in Rhodope Mountains, hydroelectric use
In Bulgaria’s Rhodopes, the Dospat Reservoir stores mountain waters behind a concrete dam; visitors fish, rent small boats and drive forested roads along its shores.
Dospat Reservoir is a man-made lake in Smolyan Province in the Rhodope Mountains of southern Bulgaria, formed by a dam on the Dospat River. It is one of the larger reservoirs in the Rhodope range and is used for water supply, hydroelectric generation and local recreation.
The shoreline offers roads and simple picnic areas, with opportunities for boating and freshwater fishing. Facilities are limited and most visits are seasonal, peaking in summer when the water is used for recreation.
