Dormition (Assumption) Cathedral in Vladimir is a 12th-century Russian Orthodox cathedral located within the Vladimir Kremlin in Vladimir Oblast. It is one of the principal monuments of medieval Vladimir-Suzdal and a key example of pre-Mongol Russian architecture.
The cathedral is noted for its large interior and medieval wall paintings and frescoes, which attract visitors interested in Russian medieval art and ecclesiastical architecture. The building serves as the principal church of the Kremlin ensemble and is often visited together with nearby white-stone monuments.
Construction began under Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky in the 12th century and the cathedral was expanded and redecorated in subsequent centuries. The cathedral sits inside the Kremlin in the city of Vladimir, on the Klyazma River, approximately 180-200 km east of Moscow. It is in the historic centre of Vladimir and is accessible from the city centre on foot.
