Dnieper Reservoir

The Dnieper Reservoir is an artificial impoundment on the Dnieper River in Zaporizhzhia Oblast created by the Dnieper Hydroelectric Station. It serves hydroelectric generation, river navigation and regional water management.

The reservoir’s principal features are its broad water surface, navigation channels and the downstream dam and power-station complex; local activity includes fishing, river transport and shoreline recreation. Viewing points are typically located on the city and industrial embankments near the dam.

The reservoir and accompanying hydroelectric dam were constructed in the late 1920s and early 1930s as part of Soviet-era industrialization; the complex was damaged during World War II and subsequently repaired and modernized in later decades.

Stretching along the Dnieper River in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the reservoir lies adjacent to the city of Zaporizhzhia and its industrial and transport infrastructure.
