Dinefwr Castle

Dinefwr Castle is a medieval castle ruin situated above the River Towy near the town of Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire, Wales. The castle forms a prominent ruin within the wider Dinefwr estate and parkland.

Visitors view the surviving keep and earthworks on a wooded hilltop and can combine a visit with nearby heritage features, including an 18th-century country house and an established deer park. The site is used for walking, birdwatching and interpretation of regional medieval history.

Historically Dinefwr was associated with the rulers of the medieval Welsh kingdom of Deheubarth and later saw military activity during the period of Norman-Welsh conflicts and subsequent centuries; the castle fell into ruin and the surrounding estate was landscaped in later periods.

Dinefwr stands close to Llandeilo in south Wales, occupying a wooded hill overlooking the River Towy within the Dinefwr Park and estate landscape.
