Dinaburga Castle is a ruined medieval fortress in southeastern Latvia, with origins in the 13th century (commonly dated to 1273). The surviving remains are visible as masonry fragments and earthworks on a raised riverside site.
The site presents ruined stonework and defensive ramps where visitors can examine masonry fragments and the surrounding defensive slope; the footprint and river setting are the main on-site features. There are no large reconstructed structures on site, so visits focus on the ruins and riverside views.
The castle was established in the 13th century by forces of the medieval Livonian sphere and played a military role in the border dynamics of the region; it was attacked, rebuilt and changed hands several times during the medieval and early modern periods, leaving it in ruin today. Archaeological and historical records note repeated destruction and rebuilding across centuries.
