Devils Punch Bowl State Natural Area
Park Coastal natural area with a collapsed sea cave
An Oregon coastal natural area featuring a collapsed sea cave and viewing platform; visitors photograph the bowl, watch winter storms and scan for seabirds and migrating whales.
Devils Punch Bowl State Natural Area is a coastal state park on the central Oregon coastline near the community of Otter Rock. It is managed by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department and is centered on a collapsed sea cave that forms a large bowl open to the ocean.
The site offers paved viewpoints and a short, accessible trail that leads to ocean-facing overlooks and picnic areas. The bowl itself is a prominent wave-cut feature with openings that let surf rush in and spray up through the rock; nearby shoreline provides tidepools and bird-watching opportunities. Coastal views from the headland make it a popular stop for photographers and for watching winter storms and seasonal marine migrations.
The feature formed by marine erosion where a sea cave collapsed and left a rounded cavity in the headland; the area has been managed as a state natural area to protect the shoreline and provide public access. Park facilities were developed to concentrate visitors at safe viewing points and interpretive signage explains the coastal processes.
The park sits on the central Oregon coast between Newport and Yachats at Otter Rock, with vehicle access and a roadside parking area on the highway serving the site.
