Dent d’Hérens is a prominent peak in the Pennine Alps on the border between Switzerland (Valais) and Italy (Aosta Valley). It is an Alpine four-thousander and forms part of the high ridge west of the Matterhorn.
The mountain is characterised by steep faces and glaciated slopes and is primarily of interest to mountaineers rather than casual hikers. Climbs require technical alpine experience and glacier travel skills.
Dent d’Hérens sits within the high Pennine chain of the Alps and overlooks valleys on both the Swiss and Italian sides, forming part of the boundary ridge with neighbouring peaks including the Matterhorn to the east.
The summit rises above the surrounding glaciers and is accessed from mountain huts and valley approaches in Valais and Aosta.
