Denali State Park is a protected area in the U.S. state of Alaska that preserves foothill country and lowland terrain adjacent to the Alaska Range and the higher-elevation Denali area.
The park provides hiking, camping, fishing and wildlife-viewing opportunities and is valued for its frontal views of Denali on clear days. Recreational use is mostly road- and trail-based, with informal backcountry access from trailheads along the Parks Highway.
The park was created to protect scenic and recreational lands on the southern approaches to Denali, distinct from the federally managed Denali National Park to the north.
It lies along the Parks Highway between the population centers to the south and the interior of Alaska, providing roadside access to mountain views and outdoor recreation in the foothills of the Alaska Range.
- Denali viewpoints: The park runs along the edge of the Alaska Range and provides some of the more accessible road-side viewpoints of Denali on clear days from the Parks Highway.

How to Get to Denali State Park #
Denali State Park runs along the Parks Highway (Alaska Route 3), about 2-3 hours north of Anchorage and 30-60 minutes south of the Denali National Park entrance depending on which trailhead is chosen. By car, use the Parks Highway and turn onto the park’s access roads at points like Byers Lake or the Clear Creek area.

- Bring insect repellent in summer - mosquitoes can be relentless in low-lying areas and along rivers.
- Use the park's marked trails and check Alaska State Parks trail conditions; cell reception is limited.
- For views of Mount Denali, head to the park's Clear Creek or Byers Lake areas at dawn - glimpses of the massif are sporadic but unforgettable.
