Dena

Dena is a high mountain massif in the Zagros Mountains of southwestern Iran, with its highest summit rising to about 4,409 metres. It is one of the principal ranges of the Zagros and a major highland landmark in the region.

The massif offers multiple alpine ridges and peaks above 3,000 metres, high mountain meadows and seasonal snowfields that attract hikers and mountaineers. Routes vary from steep scrambles to multi-day treks, and the area is noted for its high-altitude flora and mountain scenery.

The range is a natural feature formed as part of the Zagros orogeny and has long been used by local pastoralists; in modern times it has become a focus for recreational mountaineering and nature protection. Parts of the area are managed as a protected zone to conserve its habitats and wildlife.

Geographically it sits in the Zagros highlands near the city of Yasuj, roughly 30 kilometres to the south, in southwestern Iran. The terrain is mountainous and remote, with access from valley roads and trailheads on the surrounding slopes.

• Climbing season: Best climbed from spring to early autumn when routes are largely free of snow; winter ascents require mountaineering experience and winter gear.
