Den Tilsandede Kirke

Den Tilsandede Kirke (the Sand-Covered Church) is a ruined coastal church at Rubjerg Knude in North Jutland, Denmark, known for having been gradually buried by migrating sand dunes and abandoned in the 19th century.

The site presents low, partially buried stone walls and a ruined tower set into raw dune landscape; visitors commonly combine the visit with the nearby lighthouse and dune walks. The surrounding shifting sands and coastal vistas make it a clear demonstration of active coastal geomorphology.

Progressive sand drift over generations filled and covered the church site until regular use became impossible, leading to its abandonment in the 19th century; the ruins have since become a heritage attraction illustrating the dynamic coastline. The adjacent lighthouse later became a separate focus for coastal-protection efforts.

The ruins sit on the Rubjerg Knude dune complex on the North Sea coast near the village of Lønstrup in North Jutland Region, Denmark.
